BELLEVILLE, MI — The USO and Yankee Air Museum are teaming up to collect and send 1 million messages of gratitude to active US military personnel stationed worldwide.

On Saturday, May 28, the museum will hold “Celebrate and Connect,” an event encouraging patrons to write messages for US military troops stationed worldwide.

“The museum has a long-standing and strong commitment to honoring our military veterans,” said Kevin Walsh, executive director of the Yankee Air Museum. “This year, we take it a step further by working with the USO to send notes of thanks. These events are exemplary of (the museum’s) core values.”

“Celebrate and Connect” is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The campaign is a USO-led effort to let Americans send tangible thank you notes to service men and women.

Giving thanks to those who protect the U.S. at home and abroad is especially important for Melissa Frutos, chairwoman for “Celebrate and Connect.” Frutos’ husband is currently serving in the Air National Guard. She said troops everywhere appreciate even the smallest gesture.

“Honoring our past while celebrating our future is the unifying theme for the Museum’s support of the USO’s letter campaign,” Frutos said. “We value our nation’s military, past, present and future and this provides us with an important connection to our servicemen and women.”
