Standard Journal/Joseph LawRexburg, ID – A small U.S. Navy fighter plane has had a circuitous journey to get to its new home at the Legacy Flight Museum at the Rexburg-Madison County Airport.
The McDonnell Douglas A-4 Skyhawk II went from the Navy’s flying roster to the so-called “boneyard” at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base to Ontario, Ore.

Somewhere along the way after leaving the air base it was painted in the colors of the Blue Angels, the Navy’s aerobatic team which flew Skyhawks from 1974 through 1986.
John Bagley recently purchased the Skyhawk at an auction in Ontario, Ore. and towed it back to Rexburg this weekend on a flat-bed trailer.

Although the plane is small compared to many military planes, taking it down the highway required special permits and a chase car with warning lights.

The Skyhawk is in very good shape, but the Legacy Flight Museum doesn’t plan to make the plane flyable like most of the aircraft on exhibit.
