RANTOUL, IL — Community Foundation of East Central Illinois has awarded a $2,550 grant to Chanute Air Museum to develop educational programs utilizing flight simulation.
The grant has allowed the museum to purchase a computer, monitor, flight control yoke and rudder pedals to facilitate aviation education through flight simulation. A series of lesson plans using the new technology and geared toward elementary-age children was developed as a result of consultation with outside museum educators and pilot instructors.
“Education is an important part of the museum’s mission, and we have a responsibility to do the best we can,” Mark Hanson, museum curator, said. “Flight simulation is brand new for us and has really exciting educational potential.”
