Historian Betty Darst will tell the story of Earhart, who mysteriously disappeared over the Pacific Ocean during an attempted around-the-world flight in 1937, using photos, maps and handwritten notes made by Earhart herself.

Earhart was an aviation trailblazer for women pilots, who was the first person to fly solo from Hawaii to California, the first woman to fly across the Atlantic, and set several altitude records.

“Amelia Earhart is a true role model, not just for women and girls, but all people,” said Barbara A. Williams, the museum’s interim executive director. “She dared to be different in a time when women were not encouraged to take on such bold careers – and certainly not to fly.”

The event includes a dinner at 6:30 p.m., which costs $17 for museum members and $20 for non-members. There is no charge to attend the program, which starts at 7:15 p.m.
