The new Patuxent River naval Air Museum and Visitor's Center will soon become reality. Contract award is expected and day and ground-breaking will occur soon.Lexington Park, MD — For the past 70 years, Naval Air Station Patuxent River has been the hub for naval aviation pioneers in research, development, test and evaluation. To help tell their story, AVIAN LLC has partnered with the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum Association, (PRNAMA), to design the interior spaces and displays of its new building scheduled to open in 2015.

Utilizing visual and written communication professionals from the AVIAN Information and Multimedia Services Division, better known as AIMS, AVIAN will assist PRNAMA with the presentation of museum displays to include, color scheme, layout design, continuity, lighting and contextual flow of exhibits.

“We are extremely excited to come together with the museum association to make this project a reality,” said Kevin Switick, a U.S. Naval Test Pilot School graduate and AVIAN’s chief executive officer. “Each day we get one step closer to bringing this building to life.”

The building will consist of approximately 22,000 square feet of open floor space divided into six major sections. Visitors to the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum and Tourism Center will learn about the unique world of naval aviation, the role of NAS Patuxent River, what has taken place here over the decades, what is happening here today and how it affects the local and national community.

With countless artifacts and more than 20 Navy and Marine Corps historic test aircraft, such as the Curtiss A-1 Triad replica and the cutting edge X-47 unmanned combat air vehicle, the new museum is the only facility of its kind to highlight flight research, development, test and evaluation.

According to the PRNAMA kneeboard newsletter, “The new building is certainly cause for excitement, but it will start as just an empty building. Its real promise won’t be achieved until it is properly filled with exciting, educational exhibits. To outfit a fully illustrative and interactive museum, however, requires continued support from the community.”
