Hammondsport, NY — A museum that showcases the work of a New York-born aviation pioneer is set to reopen later this month.
Officials at the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum of Aviation History in the Finger Lakes village of Hammondsport tell the Star-Gazette of Elmira ( http://stargaz.tt/1ruxaKh ) that they’re on schedule for a soft reopening during Memorial Day weekend.
Work was begun in January on a $1.2 million interior renovation for the museum, dedicated to a native son and aviation pioneer who built many of his prototype planes in Hammondsport, located at the southern end of Keuka Lake.
Curtiss played such a major role in the development of seaplanes that he’s considered the father of naval aviation. He has been the subject of documentaries aired on the History Channel and the National Geographic Channel.
