Tangmere Military Aviation Museum is situated in a corner of the old RAF Tangmere airfield, famed for its illustrious service from 1916 through to the post-war years.  It was opened by a group of aviation enthusiasts in 1982 to promote public awareness of the United Kingdom’s military aviation heritage, educate present and future generations in military aviation and serve as a memorial to airmen and airwomen who gave their lives in the service of this country.

The Museum is home to an impressive display of historic aircraft and a unique collection of aviation memorabilia stretching from the First World War through to the Cold War.  Amongst the many attractions, are numerous interactive displays and several aircraft simulators for visitors to experience.  There is something for all members of the family to see and do.

The Army Air Forces Historical Association® consists of volunteers from all walks of life who share a common interest – a desire to help preserve this part of our aviation heritage. For some the interest comes from relatives who served. For veteran members who flew, manned or maintained the famous bomber, fighter and transport aircraft, it is a chance to share their memories with a younger generation.

Association members wearing original flight gear and uniforms of the time, are not re-enactors, but living historians who movingly explain and re-tell the tales of the harrowing experiences of the World War II veterans. The war years of the 1940’s take on a special meaning otherwise lost in history books or films.

As more and more aircraft were restored and the Planes of Fame collection grew, an additional display facility was opened in Valle, Arizona in 1995. Located halfway between Williams, Arizona and the south rim of the Grand Canyon, this facility houses over 40 of the Museum’s aircraft, many of which are also flyable. Our mission is to preserve aviation history, inspire interest in aviation, educate the public, and honor aviation pioneers and veterans.  The Museum is dedicated to the preservation, perpetuation and exhibition of historical aircraft, and to the men and women, both famous and unknown, who devoted their lives to flight.
