CH-47D Chinook The U.S. Army is replacing its CH-47D Chinook helicopters with the new CH-47F models. Consequentially the Army has some CH-47D models it is willing to loan or donate to qualified organizations.

The CH-47D Chinook is a twin-turbine engine, tandem rotor helicopter designed for transportation of cargo, troops, and weapons during day, night, visual, and instrument conditions.

The CH-47D has been the U.S. Army’s prime mover for over 20 years, and was a central element in U.S. Army operations in the Persian Gulf War, where more than 160 Chinooks carried U.S. and Allied troops in history’s largest aerial assault to outflank Iraqi forces and cut off their retreat from Kuwait. D models also provided heavy lift support in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Recipients are responsible for the transportation of donated aircraft but as these aircraft are in flying condition it might be possible to have them flown close to the final location as part of the turn-in / transfer process.

The Army will assist in some level of demilitarization of the aircraft but recipients will also need to ensure that all local, state and federal regulations are followed.
