LOWER TOWNSHIP, NJ – The Naval Air Station Wildwood (NASW) Aviation Museum has announced its 2013 calendar of events, including the Runway 5K and 1 Mile Fun Walk.
The 2013 Free Historic Lecture Series is scheduled for three Tuesdays in June. Lectures will begin at 7 p.m. Closing out the summer season, NASW will host AirFest on Labor Day Weekend and a USO style big band dance and concert in September.
The Runway 5K and 1 Mile Fun Walk is scheduled from 7 a.m. to noon on June 8. With the cooperation of the Delaware River & Bay Authority (DRBA), the airport will temporarily close to air traffic to allow runners and walkers to compete on the runway.
All runners registered before June 1 will be entered in a drawing to win a ride on the B-17 “Yankee Lady.” Race day registration begins at 7 a.m. and the race starts at 9 a.m.
American Pride Days will be held June 10-12, featuring the B-17 “Yankee Lady.” B-17 walkthrough tours are included with regular admission. Flights on the B-17 “Yankee Lady” are also available. Call Dave Wright (734-483-4030 ext. 236) to book a reservation.
The Free Historic Lecture Series will take place at 7 p.m. on June 4, 18 and 25. On June 4, Peter Fantacone will recall the invasion of Normandy, followed by Q&A session. On June 18, Joan Berkey will speak on “Images of America US Coast Guard Training Center at Cape May.” On June 25, Ken Kula will speak on “Warbirds around the World.”
The 17th Annual AirFest will take place Aug. 30-Sept 2, featuring WWII aircraft such as the B-24 Liberator, B-17 Flying Fortress and the P-51 Mustang. An USO style big band dance and concert will take place from 7 to 11 p.m. on Sept. 21. Enjoy dancing and lessons from professional dance instructor, Tom Cupp. Walt Wagner & the Serenaders Big Band will play and there will be a wooden dance floor.
