Windsor Locks, CT USA — What better way to spend a day than playing pilot at the Museum!  Open Cockpit Sundays are by far our most popular events when visitors are permitted to climb into the cockpits of up to 10 vintage aircraft which may include the WWII P-47 Thunderbolt, the North American F-100 Super Sabre, the F-104 Starfighter, several helicopters, and more!  There are usually a few special guests and activities here on those days as well.  Open Cockpit Sundays are held inside the Museum’s three large, heated display hangars and a food vendor will be on site where visitors can purchase sandwiches, snacks and hot and cold drinks.  Open Cockpit Sundays run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the Museum and gift shop staying open until 5:00 p.m.

Here’s the 2013 line-up:
January 20:  Visitors will be permitted to climb into the cockpits of up to 10 vintage aircraft.  Special on this day, access to the Kaman SH2-F ‘Seasprite.’  Flight Sim Spot will be open extended hours of 10:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (first come, first served).  As an added feature, the Wings & Wheels Modelers Club will present a show featuring hundreds of plastic scale models of airplanes, military vehicles, figures, ship and cars.  There will be ongoing demonstrations by modelers who will be working on and building models throughout the day.  Time Machine Hobby will demonstrate R/C model flight.

February 17:  Visitors will be permitted to climb into the cockpits of up to 10 vintage aircraft.  Special on this day, access to our newly restored Douglas A-26C ‘Invader.’  Flight Sim Spot will be open extended hours of 10:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (first come, first served).  As an added feature, we welcome artist Gary Velasco who specializes in vintage aircraft nose art.  Mr. Velasco recreated the nose art on the Museum’s B-29 Superfortress “Jack’s Hack” and will be available to talk with visitors about his work.  We also feature our new “America Takes to the Air!” demonstrations about the early days of commercial passenger flight.

March 17:  Visitors will be permitted to climb into the cockpits of up to 10 vintage aircraft.  Special on this day, access to the Doman LZ-5.
