Palm Springs, CA — Many visitors flock to Palm Springs to see architecture from the middle of the 20th century. And pretty soon, they can also check out some of the aircrafts from the era as well.

The Palm Springs Air Museum is planning an expansion to accommodate aircrafts from the Cold War military years.

“We’re at the point where we want to add another gallery, which is kind of the transition from World War II into the Cold War, and Korea and up into Vietnam, and up into the let’s say middle 1970s and early ‘80s. That’ll be our next gallery,” Fred Bell, executive director for the Palm Springs Air Museum explained.

The air museum would like to begin construction on its new 20,000-square-foot hangar in June 2016. The $3 million addition — known as the Major General Kenneth Miles Hangar — will accommodate aircraft like the F-104 Starfighter, an early supersonic military jet developed for the U.S. Air Force, and flown roughly from the late 1950s to late 1960s.
