Box Elder, SD — The South Dakota Air and Space Museum will host its first community appreciation day on Saturday July 30, 2016. Normal museum hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; special appreciation day events will run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The appreciation day will celebrate the museum’s mission to preserve the legacy of Ellsworth Air Force Base, the United States Air Force, and the men and women who’ve served not just in the Black Hills area, but around the world.
The museum is located at 2890 Davis Dr. outside the main gate of Ellsworth AFB in Box Elder.
The appreciation day also celebrates the continuing evolution of the museum by showcasing recent museum updates and future additions. A major landscaping project was recently completed to highlight the many aircraft on static display outside the museum.
Museum admission is always free. Some special events for the appreciation day are available for either a nominal cost or a suggested donation. All funds go directly to the museum.
