B-24 Liberator bombers rolling down the assembly line at Willow Run in 1942.YPSILANTI, MI — Those concerned about the Yankee Air Museum meeting its August deadline in the race to save the Willow Run Bomber Plant can breathe a sigh of relief: the campaign has been extended for two more months.

The Yankee Air Museum has been working with RACER Trust, which took ownership of the 5-million square foot former General Motors Powertrain Plant in Willow Run, to raise the $8 million necessary to preserve part of the plant to expand the museum. The campaign “Save the Bomber Plant” officially launched in May to raise the money to save 175,000 square feet of the bomber plant to house the museum’s aircraft, artifacts and exhibits.

The original deadline for the campaign was Aug. 1, but RACER Trust and the Yankee Air Museum have reached an agreement to extend the deadline 60 days to ensure the success of the campaign.

“We evaluated Yankee Air Museum’s request for a two-month extension of its fundraising deadline and we’re pleased to accommodate the request,” stated Elliott P. Laws, administrative trustee of the RACER Trust.
