Lubbock, TX — The Silent Wings Museum, 6202 N. I-27, will commemorate the 69th anniversary of D-Day with a free one-day event to remember those killed on June 6, 1944.

There will be opportunities to view the documentary “D-Day Remembered,” as well as children’s educational activities and special exhibits.

“There’s also going to be a World War II patch display of authentic World War II patches that soldiers and different military personnel wore on their uniforms,” said Vassandra Okoruwa, marketing and events coordinator for Lubbock’s municipal museums. “It’s really a day where we honor the great sacrifices given by the Allied Forces on the shores of Normandy, France, during a very critical moment in the war in Europe.”

Also on display will be a real C-47 and B-25, each available for rides.

The Greatest Generation will offer rides in its C-47 “Southern Cross” for a fee of $75. Advanced booking is required. To arrange a ride, email Dana Wood at greatestgeneration@yahoo.com or call (817) 659-9249.

The Commemorative Air Force, in conjunction with the Texas Air Museum, will offer rides in its B-25 “Yellow Rose” for a fee of $395. No reservation is required.

Tickets will be available at the Silent Wings Museum from 10 a.m. June 6; the plane departs at noon June 7.
