Monroe, LA  — A crowd forms in anticipation to see a re-touched piece of our nation’s history at the Chennault Aviation Museum. U.S. veterans teamed up to restore a military aircraft that had begun to deteriorate and rust.

“This is a very unique airplane, the issue was hard to come by. But, it’s just like restoring anything, it’s a lot of detail,” says the head of the Aircraft Restorations Team, Jerry Smith.

Before this project could take off the Aircraft Restoration Team gathered vet volunteers who worked for 10 years before the unveiling.

“We had a lot of help, we have a lot of different people. Hydrolic men, we’ve got engine men, military, and it’s just unreal,” says Air Force Veteran, Joe Stidams.
