Chico, CA — Chico Air Museum is counting down the days before it closes the current museum and opens in its new quarters.

Located at 170 Convair Ave. at the Chico Municipal Airport, the museum was required by the city to leave its World War II-era building because of asbestos and repairs that are too expensive for the city to make.

For months, the museum army of volunteers has been working on another city-owned airport building on Ryan Avenue that it is leasing.

The air museum’s last day at its current location will be Dec. 28.

Then it will close in order to move the exhibits and memorabilia to the new location, which could open sometime during the first quarter of 2015. It will keep its current days and time of operation.

Conducting a capital campaign to help fund repairs to the new building, the museum reported more than half of the $60,000 goal had been met.
