Grissom Air Museum PROP ProgramKokomo, IN — Grissom Air Museum is dedicated to the ongoing care and preservation of its unique collection of military aircraft. It is able to maintain the upkeep on these historic aircraft because of sponsors.
Without annual contributions, these aircraft would succumb to the weather and the ravages of time.
There are several ways to join the museum in its efforts to honor its aircraft by keeping them maintained. This program, called “PROP,” involves individuals and groups working with the museum to keep the static display aircraft looking great which, in turn, honors those men and women who sacrificed for our country.
Level One, general care, is where a group offers bi-annual care to a plane they have chosen, or “adopted.” This effort includes washing their chosen aircraft twice a season, removing the weeds and brush that grow under them, and repairing or replacing the guide line and border around the plane.
This adoption group schedules two visits, usually Saturdays or Sundays, to the museum. These visits are usually in the Spring and Fall. The Grissom Air Museum supplies the group with the cleaning materials, the clean up equipment, and other tools. It also offers the group a free meal to thank them for their efforts.
When a group agrees to “adopt” a plane, that groups’ name is published in all of the museum’s print media. (museum newsletters, press releases, website page, etc.)
The goal of the museum is to provide visitors with a great experience, which includes spectacular aircraft. With the help of volunteers, it moves closer to reaching this goal.
