Warner Robbins, Georga USA — Museum of Aviation events are true to their vision to “explore the past, create the future” in the many field trips, tours, flight labs and outreach programs they offer. Coming March 30 is “Spring into Science,” giving children pre-K through fifth grade the opportunity to experiment with math and science with the Easter Bunny. The children are asked to bring an Easter basket for an egg hunt that will also be included in the 9 a.m.-noon function. Cost for “Spring into Science” is $30 per person with reservations being made by calling Cindy Groves at 222-7575. You may also e-mail Cindy at cgroves@museumofaviation.org.
Other STEM-based programs being offered by the Education Department at the Museum of Aviation are varied and geared toward all ages up to the 12th grade. All classes vary in fees and require a minimum and maximum enrollment. For grades preK-K there is Wonder Wings on Tuesdays-Fridays in the morning. This is a field trip that focuses on basic parts of an airplane, studying the F-15 fighter jet and other fun, interactive activities.
ACE is for first through fifth grades. Tuesday through Friday there are field trips specifically designed to correlate with state and national standards for each grade level. The curriculum consists of stimulating hands-on STEM activities and an opportunity to sit in the cockpit of an F-15 fighter jet. Objectives for each grade level are sound (first), motion (second), magnetic force (third), forces, mass and motion (fourth) and electricity (fifth).
ACE Plus is for first through fifth grades and is a special package that includes an ACE field trip and a guided tour in the Eagle Building after a 30 minute lunch break. This all-day field trip covers science and history.
ACE Plus also offers a field trip that comes directly to your school. In other words, instead of students coming to the museum, the museum comes to the students. Schools must be within 30 miles of the museum, and the program is geared for first through fifth grades.
