Registration is now open for The Smithsonian Air And Space Museum’s Mutual Concerns of Air and Space Museums Conference to be held Friday, April 1st – Monday, April 4th, 2016.

Conference Overview

Mutual Concerns is a unique, international meeting specifically focused on the needs of the air and space museum community. The bi-annual conference features three days of panel discussions and concurrent sessions, offering everything from practical, in-depth information to timely tricks of the trade. Serving both large and small museums, conference sessions cover relevant topics like fundraising, preparing the next generation of museum staff, providing educational activities, archiving collections, and exhibiting.

The meeting is designed to provide participants with meaningful and relevant professional education in a variety of areas important to the air and space museum community, as well supply ample opportunities to network with colleagues from around the world. Over 100 museum and museum-related organizations attend.

The meeting hosts a small Marketplace with exhibitors who offer special services or experience to air and space museums. The meeting’s venue and set-up allows participants to have ample time to get to know Marketplace exhibitors and their services.

2016 Conference Highlights

The 2016 Mutual Concerns Conference will be held in the New York City area with co-hosting museums The Cradle of Aviation and The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. The Conference will begin with an evening reception on Friday, April 1 at the conference hotel, the Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson. Conference sessions will run from Saturday, April 2 through Monday, April 4. Sessions will be held at the Hyatt Regency on Saturday, April 2, at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum on Sunday, April 3, and at the Cradle of Aviation Museum on Monday, April 4.

Sessions include: Challenges of Curating the Present, Surviving and Thriving After a Disaster, Crowdfunding, 3D Modeling, and the One Person Development Office. Former astronaut Michael J. Massimino will be the keynote speaker. There will also be a number of exciting, optional fieldtrip opportunities spanning the area. Trips are being planned for conference evenings and Tuesday, April 5.
