Photo by: Matt GadeKALAMAZOO, MI USA — Bob Ellis, retired executive director of the Air Zoo in Portage, is among the Michigan Aviation Hall of Fame inductees in 2013, the Air Zoo has announced.

Ellis ended his 35-year career with the aviation museum in January. Ellis, a former aviation mechanic, was the first employee hired by the founders of the museum in 1977.

He helped transform a small collection of old airplanes in a hangar into a more than 120,000-square-foot facility that is just as much a theme park as it is a museum.
